This Schway and that Schway

I'm a little late posting this blog, but it is what it is. The Diva Zentangle Challenge this past week was to  create a tile using the new official Zentangle pattern Schway. I enjoyed playing with Schway. I got confused a couple of times, but all is good.

I like the way some folks were able to loosen up the grid-like patterning of Schway so at first I decided to create something along those lines. I wasn't too sure about it but once I went back to it to fill it in with filler patterns, I began to like it. I decided to create some conflict (well, that was because when I was joining the zig zag columns I kind of goofed, but all is well in the world of Zentangle).

Then I decided to draw a stringed tile using multiple tangle patterns. This was done late Saturday night while at my in-laws for a Happy Mother's Day/Birthday/Bon Voyage get-together. After dinner the boys settled down for a game of poker and I decided to get at least one tile finished.

Zentangle Quest Challenge

This week's Diva challenge was to create a tile using Maria Thomas' Zentangle Quest as she explained in her blog. Okay, that will be fun but I also have to get started on my 9 piece curvy string ensemble for next weekend's Tangle U 2013. Here's the ensemble (which will be mixed around and shared with others) using the effect of the Zentangle Quest:

Some tangles are: Whyz, Knightsbridge, Leaflet, Echoism, Henna Drum, Tipple, Shattuck, Ammon, Purk (I can't remember them all)

I taught a Zentangle Workshop to a group of educators yesterday at the Southern Vermont Educators Symposium at Maple Street School in Manchester. I had a wonderful time and here's the group tile picture:




A couple of weeks ago I taught a newcomer to our town. She did a super job with her tangling. Great job, Lola!



I sure do love teaching and I sure do love Zentangle. Lucky me that I get to combine the two!

Weekly Challenge #101 UMT v.XII: "Phicops"

Laura, our fun tangle-loving Diva, gave us a challenge this week to use her husband's new tangle, Phicops. I love organic tangles, and this one is great fun to do. I think I could use some more practice with it, but I do enjoy it immensely. Instead of a tile this week, I chose to work on a bookmark. If you click on the picture, you'll get an enlargement of it.

I have a new respect for Simon Beck. He's the guy who makes those wonderful snow patterns with his snowshoes which look like beautiful zentangles. Amazing work. A while back I went snowshoeing with my husband and good friend one night and after a jaunt around the lit trails (so beautiful) we went to the field and began tangling. A little Henna Drum here.......

Wow, it's a LOT of work! I'm thinking that it would be good to figure out what you are going to make before getting to your snowfield of choice, and choose a pattern which can be made continuously
(like what you would do if you were machine quilting the pattern). Next time I'm going to do it in the daylight and do it somewhere where I can take a picture from a higher spot. It was a lot of fun! I wonder if we could do a group snowtangle.

Bunzo, challenge #93

So we survived Tropical Storm Sandy here in Vermont. Thankfully it wasn't as bad as last year's Irene. We lost our power last night around midnight and when I got home from work this afternoon I was pleasantly surprised with having power. Phew! There still is a windblown tree sitting on our wires but the power company has been contacted and when they can get around to it, I'm sure they will come. My heart goes out to the folks who lost their loved ones, homes, and businesses.

While the power was flickering yesterday, I started in on a tile and finally finished it today. The Diva Challenge was to use the new tangle pattern from Rick and Maria of Zentangle, Bunzo. The challenge for me was to figure out what to put with it. I'm satisfied with the Australian Helen Williams' Leaflet tangle (I really like that tangle and have been using it a lot lately).
