Amanda Day aka Earth Day Challenge and a Zendala Dare

I'm always fascinated where my tiles take me. This week's Diva challenge was to create a tile in honor of Earth Day. Well, her son fondly names it Amanda Day. Very cute. I wanted to create something with earthy tangles. I started off making a circle then putting leaves around it.  Okay, good enough start. I then wanted a globe. I sketched out a "string" of the land masses. I filled in the water with watery tangles (Shattuck and River) then went on to the land. I chose Tearce, Sugarcane, Vitruvius, Woven, Flux,  and AirFields (I just made up that name because I think it looks like fields from an airplane). Ah well, please let's all of do our part in helping Amanda get healthy so our grandchildren's grandchildren will have a beautiful Earth to enjoy.

I also decided to try the zendala dare. For this one I started in the middle and put a little circle, added lines and more circles then Betweed with a fill of Perfs, went to the outside shapes with Striping, then back to fill in with a Hurry variation. This is my entry for last week's challenge:

Enjoy yourself. Go play.

Aura Echos

VACATION WEEK! Ahhh, it's coming to an end and I'm just squeaking out Laura's challenge for this week. We were challenged to create a tile using tangles with auras. I like what my friend Danni called it: Laura's Auras.

The weather has been wonderful up 'til now and I was busy getting my snow tires off, going to the dentist, getting my kayak in the water....you know, all the things that needed to wait until I had some time off from work. So here it is, Saturday night. Time to get this blog written after just completing my zentangle. I played with Mi2 and I'm enjoying it very much. Fun, fun, fun. Ok, here it is.
Until next time......

Tangling away

Due to Laura's (aka The Diva) son back in the hospital, we are left on our own to challenge ourselves. No problem there! Today I was home sick from work so I rested and tangled. I got out my zendalas and started (and finished) my first one. Yay!
My good childhood friend's father passed away yesterday. He was like a second father to me; I will miss him....RIP Mac. He was in my thoughts as I tangled today. I taught my friend zentangle last weekend. I hope that she will find some solace with it sometime soon. It did help me.

I also finished a tile that I started last week:
Just having fun with patterns.

I wanted to test out a marker on fabric because I want to make a zentangle flag, so here's my tester:
It was a busy tangly day today. I guess that I really needed the rest and relaxation. Now if my head would stop hurting.... This too shall pass.

Have a great, healthy week my friends. Thanks for stopping by.

Huggy Bear Challenge

Another week, another Diva Challenge. This time we are using  JJ LaBarbera's tangle pattern, Huggy Bear. I had a tile that I was using while teaching a friend of mine Zentangle last weekend which happened to have one empty place to put Huggy Bear. What luck! It fits!
Huggy Bear, Nightsbridge, Laced, Purk, Zander, Cadent, Cockles'n'mussels

I finally ordered and received a set of Zendalas but haven't found the time to sit and play with them. I hope to do that soon and I will show you the results as they come along. I did dye some eggs yesterday using silk ties. What fun!

Silk Dyed Easter Eggs
from ourbestbites.com
Cut pieces of 100% silk large enough to cover an egg.  Wrap as smoothy and tightly around egg as possible, with right side of fabric facing in, and secure with a twist-tie or piece of string.  Repeat process, but wrap with a plain piece of lightweight fabric, like an old white pillowcase or sheet.
Place eggs in a large stock pot and cover with water at least 2 inches above eggs.  Add 1/4 cup white vinegar.  Bring pan to a boil and reduce to simmer.  Simmer for 20 minutes and then use a pair of tongs to remove eggs and lay them (still wrapped) on layers of paper towels or an old dish towel.  Let cool to room temperature and then remove the fabric wrappings.  Store in the fridge until ready to display.  If desired, rub with a small amount of vegetable oil for shine.
