#59 Mardi Gras

Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, came and went without fanfare around here. Once upon a time we used to go out and celebrate Fashing with the local Austrians (I worked at Stratton Mtn Ski School then, with Austrian ski instructors). Now adays it's just like any other day. I had to spend a few hours at the Toyota dealership to get my car serviced so had plenty of time to listen to music and tangle away.

I suppose loosing my brother last week had something to do with the lack of excitement. Rest in peace, Dick.

Challenge #58 diamonds

Here's my entry to the Diva's challenge this week, exploring diamonds for Penn State's Four Diamonds Fund. The Four Diamonds Fund was started by Charles and Irma Millard after their son, Christopher, lost his 3 year battle with cancer in 1972. Symbolic of the traits Christopher felt were needed to defeat cancer, he wrote a story in which the knight Sir Millard overcomes obstacles to achieve the four diamonds of Courage, Wisdom, Honesty and Strength.

I will also strive to achieve these four diamonds of Courage, Wisdom, Honesty, and Strength as I travel tomorrow to say my goodbyes to my brother who hasn't even the chance to battle his cancer.

Sanibelle challenge

This week's challenge was to explore the new tangle, Sanibelle by Tricia Faraone, CZT. It took me a bit to get used to Sanibelle. It took me a while to get into the groove, but I ended up up having a lot of fun and liking the result. I also used Hollibaugh, Heartvine, and a Static variation (crossing them...I think there might be another name for this tangleation). Thank you Tricia, and a big thanks to Laura, aka the diva, for having folks send in their new tangle patterns. So much fun!

Interesting thing, when I went back to look at the directions I noticed how different my version ended up. Huh.

Tangled fun

Last week I was at a Wellness Conference and began this tile there (using my right, or dominate hand):

I didn't get to finish it until I got home because the workshops were just too interesting. Notice the W as the string?

I have been having fun creating the möbius tangled valentines. The other day I created one with a friend.....which I highly recommend. It's fun when you each tangle a strip of paper. The strips then are glued into a moebius strip, one with the twist to the right, the other with the twist to the left, then glue them together at a 90 degree angle, or perpendicular, before cutting the strips in half to create the magic.

Here are the möbius strips glued together:

And this is after the strips are cut down the middle lengthwise:

Cute, right? So cool. KNM at Xplore & Xpress introduced this möbius fun to me. Check out her site...she has a lot of fun ideas!

T'Other Hand Redux

Creating a zentangle tile is a lot of fun and can be challenging on its own at times, but when you create one using your non-dominate hand the challenge is ten-fold. I enjoyed Laura Harms' challenge the first time around last year so I was excited about having a go at it again this year. I must say that I'm not sure that I did as well as I did last year, but I did have fun. It was definitely good for the ol' brain.

I even signed the back with my left hand....not so pretty. I am still amazed that I can do anything at all with my left hand. I should do this weekly!
